Alms for Widows

In the Spring of 2023 I delivered monthly alms envelopes to help elderly widows survive the coming year. Each of them wept upon receiving them along with some groceries. We purchased a used refrigerator for one of them and are in the process of locating another one for one of the other ladies that does not have one.

Wood for Widows

We first participated in a London-based humanitarian aid delivery to Ukraine in 1993. Today, we are involved in an urgent initiative of our own to provide life-saving firewood to widows in a village in Bucovina before the winter arrives. This is not in any way related to the war - this is an unrelated hardship situation. Nonetheless the rolling blackouts are preventing many homes that use firewood from being able to warm the home because electricity is used to circulate the wood-heated water to the radiators throughout the house. However, the widows we are helping have free-standing stoves and can use the wood to both heat and cook in the same room. One of the widows is raising two young children by herself because her husband tragically committed suicide by hanging. The women don’t know these surprise deliveries are happening. The first delivery was met with thankful hugs and joyful tears.

Winter 2022 update - despite bad weather, mud, truck repairs, and scarcity due to the war, the second of two surprise wood deliveries to needy widows is completed.

Spring 2023 update - we visited each of the ladies and are happy to report that three of the four have had the wood cut and are using it for heat. The fourth woman will have hers cut using the alms we left with her.

Boots for Refugees

My wife and I call you our angels. You appear at the most difficult moments and help us. We need a lot of things, but your help is enough for the moment.

Today we bought warm boots for our son for the winter, now he has warm boots. We are very happy about this, and it is all because of you. Thank you so much.
